For over 40 years, HEC Montréal has promoted the use of the case study method as a valuable teaching tool in nearly all of the management-related disciplines, from human resources management to marketing, finance, operations and production management, information systems, accounting studies, etc.
The Centre for Case Studies recently received a mandate from HEC Montréal’s Executive Committee to promote the use of the case study method as a teaching and research tool among professors and researchers at institutions of higher learning. The Centre’s mandate also calls for it to oversee the management of a collection of case studies that currently holds 2,000 original, adapted or translated case studies and teaching documents. It is also responsible for promoting awareness about the case study method among different internal and external clienteles.
The Centre for Case Studies is distinguished by the following features: it is led by a team of professors who share an interest in the promotion and development of the case method of teaching at HEC Montréal; a process of peer evaluation ensures the relevance and quality of the cases produced by professors, and; the Centre’s policy of free access to its Case Catalogue and the International Journal of Case Studies in Management, both of which are published online, ensures the broadest possible dissemination of cases.
